Finding new floreio...

Floreio is an art within an art. It is a recent invention, its roots are in traditional capoeira and it was heavily influenced by Angola practitioners and other modern capoeiristas.
Nowdays, without a doubt Grupo Cordao de Ouro is one of the leading forces in floreio work. Floreio can be practiced from within the game, or as a seperate entity used for conditioning, fun and artistic expression.
From a conditioning POV, floreio is superior because of its varied, unpredicted nature and the whole body demands on the muscles. (besides pulling muscles that are rarely involved)
When I create a small sequence of movement, I always refer to it as 'finding out' floreio, as opposed to 'creating' one. There is nothing new under the sun.

prof ido,

I enjoyed the video clips you posted. My favorites were #1,#2, and #5. As a matter of fact I think I will try to learn them.
Come to think of it, there was one floreio I really liked that you tried to teach me in 2006, but I couldn't quite nail the last part of it. I think you called it your "skull" combo... or something with skull in it. It's when you do a queda de rins but your legs travel in front of you to one side, then you rotate you upper body so you're facing the person while your legs are folded in a kip position and traveling back other way.
Hmmm, I know that's not the best description but does that sound familiar??
muito obrigado!!

ps... Have I ever told you about the beautiful women in San Diego?? haha!

Hey, Charlie.

I can't say I remember that sequence, must have been a spur of the moment thing. Sorry.

Boa Noite Professor Ido, como estao as coisas? i have enjoyed reading your blog and looking at your videos. I would like to ask you a question about capoeira, flexibility and floreios in relation to age. I noticed you said you started acrobatics very late (age 16). I started capoeira at age 33, and i am now wondering, at age 39, if i can continue to improve my flexibility and strength, or should i just hope to maintain what i already have(because of my late start with athletics in life) I try to avoid aerial floreios anyway. I am beginning to get a mental block about my body and age, as i notice my recovery time after injury is not as good as it was before. If you have time to answer, i would be much obliged... muito obrigada, dedicada (Irlanda)

How do you start training your students for the macacinho? They do it very frequently in the videos and do it very well. I can do macaco and au to QDR but the macacinho I can only do well on good days. Is it all in the torso or is the key to put in a little hop from the legs?
