Berlin - Nov, 09

Landed in Berlin.
I wont pretend to figure this place out in one day. Obviously, this place carries a lot of baggage behind it, you can feel it walking the streets here.
Berlin Automn... Let me tell you, there is nothing 'automny' about it for me... This is winter and winter with a bite. Grey, tinkeling rain all the time and muddy shoes that go along with brown stained 'boca de calca'. I usualy dont like this kind of weather, but this place is hypnotic. The harsh, strict german languege, the perfectly designed faces, the shicky fashion and art and the old factories from the war. I have to know more. Much more.

After 8 hours in the studio, meeting the other guys and gals (we are 5) working the project, I was taken to my apartment by the production manager. What a nice surprise...
A beatifull two bedroom aparment right in the center, coozy and warm, with fast internet access and a fully equipped kitchen. I am set. Spending here the next 40 days will be a pleasure.

I intend to explore the city, take interesting workshops and classes and see lots of shows. (from any kind!)
My training will be squeezed into the daily 8 hours movement research we are doing, and another 1-3 hours session in the end of the day. (9-11 hours of movement with 2 30 min breaks in the middle?? I guess so..)

Tomorrow early, we start again, I'll take some pictures of our amazing, completely new studio and maybe some movement clips. Stay tuned and communicate with me.

BTW, my new websites - www.idoportal.com and www.floreioart.com are comming closer and closer to some finish line.. You can already see the new design and features, but most of them are not functional yet. My good friend and amazing graphic designer Oren Vermus is responsible for the simple, clean and beautifull design, my other good childhood friend Timor (Troi Designs) is responsible for the programming. Thanks, guys, no way I could have done it without your endless help.

Ido.

  1. I am intrigued by your description of the atmosphere palpable in the streets, especially as I am descended from German Jews. I wonder how distant the events of 70 odd years ago seem when they are so intrusive, with physical reminders so visible. I am looking forward to reading more of your posts.

  2. Hi Ido,
let me welcome you to Germany first. Sadly you've picked a rather unpleasant season for it. But let me assure you: Autumn in Germany can also be very beautiful. Try travelling to the countryside once with the trees having all kinds of different colored leaves.
About your work: Is this something thats going to be on stage sometime in the near future.
I had to laugh a little bit as you (correctly) called German a harsh language because I think about learning some Hebrew and man, this is some crazy harsh sounding language :)

    Take care

  6. Joshua, of course, a sense of the terrible history here sorounds me here. It intrigues me. I am always fascinated with those dark places. How can people from the height of cultural development can become animals?

Just saw your blog, for the first time, today. A friend from the gym (we're CrossFitters) has been telling me about your blog, after my questions about exercises I see him working on. Great stuff, here. I'm excited to learn more. I'll let you know when I get my first handstand push up.

Thanks for making this information available!

  19. As a former crossfitter myself, I am curious to know why you specified the NOT crossfit part. Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haha.. Well, there are things about CrossFit that I think are valuable, but there are some things about it that I don't like.. I am learning many more forms of movement (like floreio) that are better for my body and mind (and spirit!) than CrossFit by itself. Plus we want our place to be one of a kind;) I still enjoy some tough metcons here and there, but only as it's appropriate for my training.

  21. I agree. I enjoyed it while I did it and it expanded my idea of fitness but I have since moved on. I still engage in a lot of variety including metcons, but the strict adherence is no longer for me.
